Identity Crisis in Hong Kong University Students: A Study of the Psychological Problems in the Search for National Identity
Funded by Faculty Research Grant, Hong Kong Baptist University, 2016
Ma, H. K., & Xu, Z. X.

The project aims to explore the real identity problems that our adolescents are facing in this complicated political environment. The findings may cast some light on the education of our next generation. This study investigates intensively the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral aspects of identity development and proposes to integrate these different aspects with four identity statuses including Achievement, Foreclosure, Moratorium and Diffusion, into a single theoretical model. A new instrument National Identity Interview will be constructed to test the proposed theoretical model. The respondents’ perception of parental, peer, and teacher influences on the adolescents' search for national identity will also be investigated. Findings of this study will provide insight into the thinking, feeling, and behavior of adolescents in different identity statuses in the search of national identity.
